Denture Repairs

man smilingYour dentures help you live a normal life - they help you speak, they help you chew, and they brighten your face when you smile. Unfortunately, sometimes your denture or partial denture will need to be repaired due to broken teeth, broken clasps, a tooth on your denture falling out, or other problems. We understand how stressful this can be and are available to help.

What You Should Know About Denture Repair

Biting down on hard food or dropping your dentures can break or crack them. You might be tempted to try to fix them with an over-the-counter denture repair kit. But you might be doing more harm than good if you go this route. Professional dental lab technicians have access to special adhesives, acrylics and professional grade teeth that aren’t available to the general public. Never use Super Glue to try to fix the dentures yourself.

Having the denture repair done professionally also helps to avoid sore spots and chewing problems. Many repairs can be completed the same day in our office. If your denture repair is more complex, we may need to utilize a local lab. Once the repairs are done, we’ll adjust the denture as needed for a comfortable fit.

Should you find yourself in need of a repair, please call our office right away to schedule an evaluation. Provide details on the needed repair and let us know if you have a spare denture to wear if you need to.

FAQs

When Should I Replace My Dentures Instead of Repairing Them?

You should consider replacing your dentures if they have extensive damage that cannot be repaired, such as severe fractures, significant wear, or warping. Additionally, if your dentures no longer fit properly due to changes in your mouth’s structure over time, replacing them may be a better long-term solution for comfort and function. Your dentist can help determine whether repair or replacement is the best option.

What Types of Damage Can Be Repaired?

Most common types of denture damage can be repaired, including cracks, fractures, and broken or missing teeth. In some cases, adjustments can be made to fix minor fit issues or reline the denture for better comfort. However, repairs are limited if the damage compromises the denture’s overall structure or fit beyond restoration.

Who Should I See For Denture Repairs?

For denture repairs, it is best to see a dental professional who specializes in prosthodontics or works closely with a dental laboratory. These experts have the tools and knowledge to ensure your dentures are properly repaired and fit comfortably. Contact Phillips Prosthodontics to schedule your repair appointment.
