Who Should Consider Getting a Full Mouth Reconstruction?
Many people have dental problems throughout their entire mouth.
Typically, this includes missing many teeth; having large fillings in many of your teeth that are either falling out or experiencing some type of decay; or having habits (e.g., teeth grinding, a.k.a. bruxism) that have severely worn down your teeth.
There are also some patients who were born with conditions that require them to undergo extensive restoration of their teeth.
These conditions are something that we must address comprehensively so that we can produce a final result that improves your mouth's overall functioning and appearance.
Treatment Options Available for a Full Mouth Reconstruction
Your treatment will begin with a detailed exam.
This allows us to check on your temporomandibular joint (a.k.a. TMJ), jaw muscles, bite (a.k.a. occlusion), and periodontal health.
Of course, we'll also look at your teeth to see what they look like and how healthy they are.
From there we'll be able to determine what treatment options you'll need.
Periodontal Disease
When there's periodontitis (a.k.a. gum disease) discovered during your exam, the first step will be to treat it.
Typically, this is done by placing you under a local anesthetic so we can scale and plane your teeth (scraping and cleaning away all the plaque that's built up around your teeth and under your gum line).
Sometimes laser treatment is necessary. From there we can proceed on to your full mouth reconstruction.
Procedures
Treatment options are different for each patient based on their oral health needs. Some treatments are more common than others though. These include things like:
- Bone or gum grafting (a surgical procedure that's used to build up your gums or jaw bone)
- Root canals (when bacteria enter your tooth's pulp, this procedure will remove it and rebuild the area so your natural tooth can remain in place)
- Dental Implants (a permanent way of replacing a missing tooth)
- Crowns (a.k.a. caps are used to make a damaged tooth look natural again)
- All On X (full arch dental replacement)
- Orthodontics (e.g., braces for improving your misaligned teeth)
All these treatments work together to give you an entire "smile makeover".
